Hooping as a Flow Art ( Lynn Spencer-Nelson )

In the World of Hooping there is much talk about “Flow”.
Well, what is Flow besides improvisation? It isn’t. It’s nothing more than that.
As with classical dancers outside the hoop, strength and skill open up freedom within improvisation. That does not mean that a beginning hooper cannot flow, it just means that as strength and skill build so will freedom. As a Hooper there are tricks and micro-tricks, currents, anti-spin, plain changes and countless considerations. Flow is how you put them all together. There is an order and chaos to Flow. It’s about integration and/or assimilation as you learn new things. Technically, how to run them together but then there is also spontaneity within flow and with that comes uncertainty. You have to train for mistakes so that you may face them. Flow needs trust and courage and an allowance from you. It is the adventurers spirit will find its voice.
